The Madurai Bench of Madras High Court has reserved orders in the Vishall de Mall case. A Division Bench of Justices K. K. Sasidharan and N. Sathish Kumar, hearing the case on Wednesday, said that Madurai should not face a situation like that of the Uphaar Cinema fire.

The petition was filed by A. Kannan, representing public interest litigation petitioner B. Stalin of Melur taluk, alleging that the mall had violated the building plan and was operating a bar without requisite permission. The petitioner stated that the parking lot could accommodate only 90 cars, instead of 300 cars as in the original plan. Also there were traffic problems on weekends as there was insufficient parking space leading to commotion.

He alleged that the FL3 licence to operate a bar was not in adherence to rules and it should be cancelled. Justice Sasidharan observed that the assembly point in the mall should be inside rather than outside. The Bench posted the case to a later date for orders.
