The Madras High Court bench here on Friday adjourned the anticipatory bail pleas of five Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam cadre, including an MLA, to Monday with directions to the police not to arrest them till then.
The petitioners, A.K.T. Raja (MLA), P.M. Mohan, M. Kamatchi Raja, K. Virumandi and V. Ramesh, had filed the anticipatory bail petitions apprehending arrest by the K.Pudur police after a complaint was registered by the police against them under Sections 147 (rioting), 341 (wrongful restraint), 353 (assault or use of criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the Indian Penal Code.
According to the petitioners, the police had registered the complaint on September 23, 2013 claiming that the five had entered the office of the Superintendent of Police and tried to prevent the police from arresting Mr. Raja, on a land grab complaint filed by his mother. The High Court bench here had granted bail to Mr. Raja on Tuesday.
The petitioners claimed that the complaint was false and submitted that they would appear in person when required.
