HC dismisses plea against land acquisition for TNPL

February 01, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:50 am IST - MADURAI:

The Madras High Court Bench here has dismissed a batch of writ petitions filed against acquisition of land for establishment of a paper board factory through Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Limited (TNPL) at Manapparai in Tiruchi district. Justice B. Rajendran said that while deciding such cases, the court must take into consideration the importance of public welfare since the proposed establishment of a factory, in a backward locality such as Manapparai, had the potential of generating employment. He pointed out that the petitioners had not produced sufficient evidence to prove that their properties were cultivable land.

“Even as admitted by the petitioners, they raised only trees and dry crops and not punja crops.

Therefore, they have not made out a case to stall the establishment of the factory,” he added.
