December 17, 2013 11:12 am | Updated May 28, 2016 04:25 am IST - MADURAI:

The Madras High Court bench here on Monday dismissed the bail petition filed by three students arrested in connection with the murder of the principal of an engineering college in Tuticorin district.

According to the petitioners, P. Pitchaikannan, G. Danish and M. Prabhakaran, students of Infant Jesus College of Engineering in Keezha Vallanad, the police arrested them on the charge of murdering L.R.D. Suresh, principal of the college, on October 10, 2013, after he suspended Pitchaikannan as a disciplinary measure.

In their petition, they claimed that they were in no way connected with the murder of the principal as alleged by the police.

The government advocate opposed the bail by stating that releasing the petitioners on bail would affect the investigation.

Justice M. Sathyanarayanan dismissed the bail petition based on the contention of the government advocate.
