Hajj pilgrims from three southern districts who would be proceeding on pilgrimage to Mecca and Medina shortly were inoculated in Madurai on Wednesday.
The Madurai Hajj Service Society and the Health Department have vaccinated 350 Hajj pilgrims at the office of the Deputy Director of Health Services in the city and vaccination certificates of meningitis and oral polio vaccines were issued to them.
S. Jahangeer, secretary, Madurai Hajj Service Society, has said that the Muslim pilgrims who will be going to Mecca and Medina from Madurai, Sivaganga and Virudhunagar districts have been administered the mandatory vaccine.
Members of the Tamil Nadu State Hajj Committee in Chennai have made arrangements for the inoculation for selected pilgrims including those who would be going through private tour operators. The flights for Hajj pilgrimage will start departing from Chennai airport from October 2 and the pilgrims from the State would go in batches.
Vaccination of Hajj pilgrims prior to their departure to Mecca had to be done and certificate has to be issued as per requirements. S. Mohamed Sheriff, president, Madurai Hajj Service Society, M. A. Mahaboob Basha, coordinator and L. Mohamed Ali Khan, treasurer, were present during the vaccination of pilgrims.
