P.R. Palanichamy, share holder of PRP Granites and PRP Exports, who was arrested on various charges, including illegal granite mining in the district, was admitted to the Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai on Friday after he swooned at the Melur judicial magistrate court.

Remand extension

Mr. Palanichamy was brought from Palayamkottai central prison to Melur for remand extension.

When Melur Judicial Magistrate Jayakumar extended the remand of Mr. Palanichamy till November 23, his counsel made a plea for shifting him from Palayamkottai to Madurai central prison as his health was found to be deteriorating while being brought to Melur.

After hearing the arguments of Mr. Palanichamy’s counsel and the government pleader, the magistrate requested them to wait.

During this time, Mr. Palanichamy, who was waiting outside the court hall, swooned. A local doctor was rushed to the court and he administered first aid to Mr. Palanichamy. He suggested that Mr. Palanichamy be admitted to hospital. Following which, he was brought to Government Rajaji Hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, the Judicial Magistrate Jayakumar adjourned hearing on the request for transfer to Madurai prison to November 15.
