MADURAI
Doctors of government medical colleges and hospitals have planned to launch a series of protest across the State seeking revision of compensation from 2009.
Addressing a press meet here on Tuesday, K. Senthil, president, Tamil Nadu Government Doctors’ Association (TNGDA), said that the Joint Action Committee comprising Doctors’ Association for Social Equality (DASE), TNGDA and Tamil Nadu Medical Doctors’ Association (TNMDA) would decide on the dates and schedule for this ‘attention-seeking’ protest at a meeting to be held in Madras Medical College on February 26 .
“Doctors in medical colleges teach and practise. We see over 1,000 patients each day and teach for at least four hours. We have stepped up our services during crises and have never hesitated to use our resources. However, we are still not treated on a par with our counterparts across India,” said Dr. Senthil.
He said that the protest would not affect patient care. Demonstrations would be held after duty and regular hours utilised for teaching. However, the second phase of the protest would be intense, he said.
“Though we have had four rounds of discussion with Minister of Health C. Vijaya Baskar, no desired response was shown,” he said.
