The Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH) will tap solar energy in its quest for alternative energy sources. Hospital authorities are working on putting in place solar panels in a phased manner at key points on the premises.
The Dean, N. Mohan, said on Tuesday that the hospital was falling in line with the government’s push for an exclusive Solar Energy Policy 2012, unveiled in October. “We will start by installing solar water heaters in some wards. The plan is ready and will be implemented soon,” he added. The heaters will be put in wards such as obstetrics, gynaecology and paediatric wards and in the intensive care units. After seeing the results, the proposal will be extended to general medicine and other departments where the in-patient strength is greater.
Dr. Mohan said there was also a plan to have solar-powered street lights in the hospital’s huge campus. He said Collector Anshul Mishra was masterminding the drive.
“While top priority is being accorded to sanitation and cleanliness, it is essential to undertake painting to give the hospital a facelift. Since the fund requirement for painting will be huge, it will be done block-wise. Good ambience will put GRH on a different level,” he said.
The income generated through the reimbursement coming from the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme would be used for painting and sanitation purposes. Proposals in this regard would be submitted to the Directorate of Medical Education and the district administration.
Dr.Mohan said that top class patient care and procurement of more modern equipment for advanced treatment are among the other plans.
