With the Meenakshi Sundareswarar Thirukalyanam all set to be held on April 30 as part of the Chithirai festival, online registrations for the devotees to witness the spectacle have been going on in full swing.

The temple authorities began online registrations for the event on April 21 at special counters on the temple premises as well as at Meenakshi Sundareswarar Girls’ Higher Secondary School at Teppakulam. Alternatively, devotees could also register themselves on the temple’s websitewww.maduraimeenakshi.org.

A temple official said the response had been overwhelming and the registrations for the tickets in the denomination of Rs. 500 were sold out on the first day.

“As many as 1,500 registrations for tickets of Rs. 500 denomination were received on the first day itself and they have been sold out.

The event is scheduled to take place at Tiruppugazh Mandapam on North Adi Street of the temple from 9 a.m. to 9.30 a.m.

Nearly 1,500 devotees who registered themselves under the Rs. 500 ticket category will be allowed to the venue of the Thirukkalyanam through the West Gopuram and 4,500 devotees who have registered for Rs. 200 tickets will be allowed through the North Gopuram.

The temple authorities have also made provisions for 6,000 devotees to witness the celestial wedding free of cost on a first-come-first-served basis with entry from the South Gopuram.

The temple will also live-stream the important events of the festival on the temple website for the benefit of devotees all over the world.

“We had live-streamed the flag hoisting ceremony which took place on April 21 on the website and many devotees viewed it. The ‘Pattabhishekam,’ ‘Thirukalyanam’ and car festival will be relayed live on the website as well,” said an official managing the temple website.
