The Tamil Nadu Forest Department has sanctioned Rs. 3.51 lakh to the Centre for Research and Postgraduate Studies in Botany of Ayya Nadar Janaki Ammal College to do a survey at the Grizzled Giant Squirrel Wildlife Sanctuary at Srivilliputtur.
The department has identified the research centre to undertake “Status and Distribution Survey of Select Critically Endangered/ Endangered/ Date Deficient Taxa in the Wild” under the Tamil Nadu Biodiversity Greening Project and selected V. Ganesan, Associate Professor and Head of the center to lead the project. The department had formulated the Biodiversity Greening Project for conservation of vital biodiversity of the State found within the protected areas and in reserve forest areas. The major components are biodiversity conservation, increasing the natural resource base and institutional capacity development.

Meanwhile, Ayya Nadar Janaki Ammal College bagged the second place in the National Assessment and Accreditation Council’s (NAAC) rating.
In a communication, the college principal S. Baskaran said that 14 colleges from all over the country, including 10 from Tamil Nadu, completed their third cycle of NAAC accreditation.
The peer team members of the NAAC assessed the colleges based on key aspects such as curriculum, teaching, learning, evaluation, research, consultancy and extension, infrastructure, governance, leadership, student support and innovative practices.
Loyola College, Chennai stood first with 3.7 points out of four followed by Ayya Nadar Janaki Ammal College with 3.67 points.
Correspondent A. Subash Chandra Bose expressed satisfaction that the college had bagged the honour at a time when it was celebrating its golden jubilee year.
