The rights of girls should not be denied and it should be ensured that they got what was rightfully theirs in every sphere of the society, said B. Rohini Ramdas, Additional Collector (Development) and Project Officer, District Rural Development Agency, Madurai.

Speaking at the 44th district assembly of the Inner Wheel District 321 here on Sunday, she pointed to the recent Class 10 and Plus Two results announced in Tamil Nadu in which girls outperformed boys.

“The sex ratio has also become almost balanced. However, it should not be just about statistics. It needs to be surveyed whether every girl gets her rights," she said.

Ms. Rohini also highlighted the measures taken by the district administration to ensure access to toilets to all the women across the 420 panchayats in the district.

Shanthi Ravichandran, District Chairman, Inner Wheel District 321, detailed activities undertaken by the association, which included programmes to empower women, protect environment and improve sanitation.

Veila K. Raja took charge as the District Chairman for 2017-18. Other office bearers also took charge at the function.
