The Madurai city police on Friday produced before the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court four-year-old Pavithra, daughter of a beads seller, who was kidnapped outside the Government Rajaji Hospital here about five months ago and recently rescued from Tenkasi.

A division bench of Justices R. Subbiah and A. D. Jagadish Chandira, hearing the habeas corpus petition filed by Pavithra’s mother V. Sivagami, directed the police to file a status report in the case.

Sivagami had filed a compliant with the Mathichiyam police after Pavithra was kidnapped. She had alleged that two women, one of whom was elderly, and a man diverted her attention and kidnapped her child. Following the police compliant, the habeas corpus petition was filed before the Bench.
