The Department of Science and Technology has sanctioned Rs.3.05 lakh to P.S.N.A. College of Engineering and Technology to improve entrepreneurial skills of SHGs and make them tech savvy as well as skilled in production and marketing management.

With this fund, the college will impart technology based EDP training programme for the newly formed SHG members and management training to them. The training will continue for 45 days.

It will also undertake a special field study to know their present status, production method, productivity, costs, marketing techniques, raw materials availability and packing system.

With this data, the students will understand the ground reality and chalk out strategies to improve SHG activities ranging from manufacture to marketing and administration.

The college will undertake study in Reddiyarchatram, Palani, Oddanchatram and Thoppampatti unions and assess the work culture of SHGs there. While R.V.S. College of Engineering and Technology will undertake a similar study in Vadamadurai, Gujilimaparai and Vedsandur unions, Gandhigram Rural University will conduct field study in Athoor, Dindigul and Batlagundu unions and collect data.

On the compilation of the data, Collector M. Vallalar said that the students would study and provide solutions to SHGs to weed out practical difficulties, give suggestions to improve quality of products, expand market, cut production costs and enhance management capabilities.

The district administration along with Department of Women Development and DRDA had launched innovative Micro Enterprise Management and Marketing Strategies Development Initiatives, a novel scheme involving MBA students to assist SHGs in operating their business activities professionally in March, 2009.
