Four persons were killed as the car they were travelling in collided with a TNSTC bus near Thirupuvanam in Sivaganga district on Friday.

Four members of a family, including a government employee and his wife were crushed to death when the car in which they were travelling collided with the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation bus at Maranadu palam, near Thirupuvanam on Friday evening.

Police said the victims – Vijaya Anand (52) an assistant in the office of Joint Director of Agriculture, Dindigul, his wife Bakyalakshmi (48), son Muthuraman (20) and relative Jaya Parthasarathy (18) were returning home after offering worship at Sri Ramanathaswamy Temple in Rameswaram when the mishap occurred.

The government bus from Madurai was proceeding towards Idaikattur, police said. Anand, his wife and son died on the spot, while Jaya Parthasarathy succumbed to the injuries on the way to the hospital, police said. Thirupuvanam police have registered a case and are investigating.
