Members of All India Mahila Sanskruthika Sangathan (AIMSS) and All India Democratic Students Organisation (AIDSO) staged a protest near the Collectorate here on Wednesday condemning the ‘Guwahati incident’ where a young girl was molested in public and also against growing crimes against women.

District Organiser of AIMSS Radhika led the protest. Its State committee member Hilda Mary condemned the union and State governments for violence inflicted upon women as their policies and approach were the main reasons for cultural degeneration in the society. The protestors, carrying placards, raised slogans demanding severe action against perpetrators of violence against women, demanded a ban on obscenity in films, television programmes, and advertisements. They also demanded closure of liquor shops and called for bringing in total prohibition in the State.

One of the major demands was that the media should restrain from objectifying violence against women. AIDSO organiser S.Sugu Bala spoke on impact of mass media on students.
