Demanding action against a former panchayat union councillor for having allegedly cheated them, a group of parents and their children submitted a petition to Collector C.Samayamoorthy on Monday.
The petitioners said M.Antony Roy, former panchayat union councillor, had promised the students that he could get them admitted to a few nursing colleges in Bangalore and ensure their education at a nominal cost.
He allegedly got a few students admitted to four nursing colleges in Bangalore. When some students had to pay the tuition fee, Antony Roy allegedly collected money from their parents, assuring them that he would pay the fee on their behalf.
“When I took an education loan to meet my daughter’s nursing programme expenses, Antony Roy collected Rs.55,000 from me, but he is yet to pay the amount to the college. My daughter’s continuing her course in Bangalore is under threat now,” said A.Arulammal of Kottaikarunkulam.
K.Dylan and N.Navaneetha from Tsunami Colony in Idinthakarai alleged that Antony Roy, who received the SSLC and Plus Two mark statements, and transfer certificates from them on the promise of securing their admission to a Bangalore-based nursing college, had cheated them.
“Besides not getting us admission to the college, he is yet to return our certificates,” they added.
Totally, 16 persons submitted petitions, all narrating how they were cheated by Antony Roy, to the Collector at the weekly grievance day meet.
The Collector told them that he would look into their complaints.
Representatives of Tirunelveli District Kindergarten and Primary Schools Welfare Association submitted a petition to the Collector seeking action against 85 unapproved primary and playschools in the district.
In another petition, members of the AIDWA said the police were yet to take action against one Rajesh of Slum Clearance Board Apartments at Thirumalnagar and his friends, who allegedly sexually assaulted a girl.
