A retired Inspector of Police, Nethaji, and 16 of his friends had been reportedly cheated to the tune of over Rs. one crore by a couple on the promise of getting them housing plots meant for disabled persons at a cheap rate.

Based on a complaint lodged by Nethaji, the Central Crime Branch has registered a case of cheating against three persons — A. Josephine, her husband Amala Joseph and one Adam Jones. In his complaint, Nethaji said he was approached by the accused at the Collectorate when he visited the Treasury. They had promised him that housing plots allocated for disabled persons by the Central government in Mattuthavani or Koodal Pudur could be bought at a cheap rate. Nethaji claimed that he gave them Rs. 37 lakh in several instalments between April 2014 and 2015. Besides, he had introduced 16 of his friends to the accused and they too had given around Rs. 85 lakh.
