The Commissioner of Dairy Development, Apurva Varma, on Friday declared open the first 24 X 7 milk parlour of the Madurai Aavin located in its premises near the Aavin Junction. The parlour will provide milk and milk products round the year, including on public holidays.

Constructed at a cost of around Rs. 8 lakh, the facility would also feature park on one side and a parking lot on the other.

Speaking to reporters, the Commissioner said that further improvement works would also be undertaken to develop the park.

K. Thangarajan, General Manager (in charge) of Madurai Aavin, said that the present sales was 1.95 lakh litres on an average a day. Reacting to reports of ghee and butter shortage, he said that this was felt not only in Madurai but across the State on account of lean season.

N. Mathivanan, District Collector and Special Officer of Aavin, said that location of the parlour itself was unique as it was surrounded by hospitals and would benefit the patients.

The park would benefit customers as they could walk in and relax while purchasing the milk.

S. Karthikeyan, Marketing and Milk Production Manager, was also present.
