Fire and Rescue Services personnel demonstrated tactful methods of putting out fire at a mock drill held in Ind Bharat Energy Limited, Eppodum Venran, Tuticorin on Saturday.
Hypothesising circumstances of a fire in a raw material yard of the company, the fire fighters demonstrated ways of saving lives, after rushing to the accident site following a fire call. Fire fighters led by District Fire Officer C. Manoharan were actively involved in rescuing the workforce after dousing the fire. It was essential to conduct such mock drills to generate awareness about the impact of fire in hazardous industries, Mr. Manoharan said.
Braving the rising flames, the fire and rescue services personnel stepped in and rescued the victims. With hands crossed, a pair of fire combaters lifted the victims and brought them to safer zones. The brigade also disseminated details of a series of life saving methods adopted while tackling fire accidents. Prior to the arrival of ambulance, first aid given to the victims was also demonstrated.
Fire crew from Sipcot was also involved in the fire fighting exercise. To allay fears among stranded workers at times of choking smoke, the brigade resorted to monkey crawling. Subsequently, to contain the spread of colossal damage to tangible assets and buildings, different techniques to douse the flame, which too are of different kinds including carbonaceous fire, oil fire, gas fire and metal fire, were adopted. Fire fighting equipments including carbon-dioxide extinguisher especially for fire caused due to electrical instruments and foam extinguisher for fire caused by oil were explained. Those stranded in high rise buildings were also lifted by the personnel using methods of chair-knot on rope and with ladder. Officials of the company S. Thiruniraiselvan, General Manager (Technical), M. Ravi, Administration Manager, S. Sekar, Assistant Safety Manager, and P. Kasini Vendhan, Manager, Human Resources, were present.
