A major fire completely destroyed a stage sets and decorative items godown at Paramathi Velur Taluk on Sunday. Two thatched roof huts located close to the godown were also gutted.
Police said that Nehru (38), of Aanagur, owned Vinod Movie Stores that supplied decorative items and other materials such as shamianas, speakers, generators and other items required to erect temporary daises/ stages and decorations for political party meetings. “Owners of the nearby agricultural land set fire to waste material earlier in the day. Stoked by heavy winds, the fire spread quickly and burnt the godown on the other end of their land around 8.50 a.m.,” S. Ramalingam and V. Senthil, residents of the village, said.
The godown was gutted in less than an hour.
