Gautham Karthik’s take away from the cinema industry is: measure your words and articulate subtly.
Addressing the press at the promotion of his latest film, ‘Ivan Thanthiran,’ Gautham clarified his stance on actor Rajinikanth’s entry into politics. “A recent controversy has been stirring about my comment on Rajini sir’s decision. I see him to be superstar of all his films. I’m just here to act,” he said. The actor also stated that he knew nothing about politics and his interest was strictly limited to movies.
In an exclusive interview to The Hindu , Gautham said his move from studying English and Psychology to the film industry was unplanned. As a third-generation actor, he was repeatedly told that he would have to follow his family’s footsteps. “My father told me that Mani Ratnam wanted to meet me. I realised this was where life was leading me.”
The actor’s last film, ‘Rangoon,’ seems to have appeased the palettes of several critics. When asked about why the endings of his movies always end with loaded thoughts, he claimed that the director’s view ranked higher than his.
‘Ivan Thanthiran’, he says, is a complete entertainer as it is about the problems that engineering students face. “There is a lot of computer-generated imagery in the movie. RJ Balaji plays the comedian and Shraddha Srinath, a theatre artiste, is the co-star. I worked for two years on the script. It offers the audience everything they will want out of a movie,” says director R. Kannan of Jayamkondaan fame.
The movie is set to release in theatres on June 30.
