Members of the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation (TNCSC) Employees’ Association under the CITU staged a protest meeting on Tuesday, demanding that the vacancies in the department be filled at the earliest.

E. Shanmugavel, State general secretary of the association, said that there were several vacancies in ration shops, godowns, modern rice mills and offices which had not been filled for long.

“There are 500 vacancies of assistant officers in the department and we have heard that the posts will be filled through employment exchanges. This will hamper the growth of existing employees in the TNCSC and will result in them not getting promotions in the future,” he explained. The members further stated that many benefits had not been given to the workers and employees. “There are no terminal benefits for those who have retired,” they stated.

Mr. Shanmugavel said that the management of supplies in the ration and societies’ outlets had to be carried out well.

“We have been receiving complaints that while supplies are available throughout the month in ration shops, the same is not the case with the societies,” he said.
