Two children getting treated in Government Rajaji Hospital here died in suspected cases of dengue, sources at the hospital said.

B. Kavinesh Kumar, aged around five, of Solai Alagupuram, was admitted to GRH on Monday, after suffering from fever for nearly a week. He died at the hospital on Thursday.

Similarly, A. Menaka (12), a girl from Palamedu, studying Class 7 in a local government school, had high fever for nearly a week, for which she was reportedly getting treated at a nearby Primary Health Centre. As her situation worsened, she was referred on Tuesday to GRH, where she died on Friday.

Officials from the Health and Family Welfare department, however, maintained that there had been no ‘confirmed’ deaths due to dengue in Madurai district this year. They, however, added that the two deaths were possibly due to a kind of viral fever and were hence being investigated as ‘fever deaths.’
