Two farmers – Malaisamy (60) and Jeyakumar (39) – were arrested on a charge of cultivating ganja as an intercrop to beans in their fields at Poomparai on upper Kodaikanal hill on Monday. One countrymade gun was seized from them.

Acting on a tip-off, a special team, led by Inspector of Police Muruganandham, conducted a surprise raid at Poomparai Vayal near Poomparai and found ganja plants in beans fields owned by the accused.

The team removed more than 25 ganja plants from the fields and destroyed them.
