Unable to look after a mentally-ill son, his aged parents ended their life after administering poison to the 32-year-old man at Thenur near here on Tuesday night.

Neighbours found Kuzhainthaivelu (60), Thangapandiammal (55) and Palpandi (32) lying dead at their residence near Ponnar Sankar Temple on Wednesday morning.

Samanayallur Inspector of Police Krishnakumar said that the father, who made a living by cutting firewood, was upset as his son became aggressive in recent times. He used to beat up his parents and also pick up quarrel with others ever since he turned mentally ill a few years back.

Palpandi is said to be a graduate in Commerce. His younger sister had been married off.

The parents gave him a banana laced with poison and they too consumed it.

The father has left a suicide note claiming that they took the extreme step out of desperation, the Inspector said.
