Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) has landed in yet another ‘controversy’ with the ‘resignation’ of a Syndicate member.
A letter, dated August 18, copy of which is available with The Hindu , purportedly written on the letter pad of M. Rajarajan, Principal, Cardamom Planters’ Association College, Bodinayakanur, states that he wants to immediately quit his Syndicate membership.
Dr. Rajarajan has denied any move to resign and demanded an enquiry into the letter carrying his signature, which, he said, was a “cut-and-paste” job.
Besides complaining to Registrar N. Rajasekar on Wednesday, he said that he would lodge a complaint with Bodi police on Thursday against the “criminal action.”
He dashed off a letter to the Governor saying that he had not resigned from Syndicate membership and pleaded with him to take appropriate steps to safeguard the university from such mischievous activities. Both the letters assume significance since Dr. Rajarajan is a critic of Vice-Chancellor Kalyani Mathivanan ever since her return to the university after obtaining an interim stay on the judgement delivered by the Madras High Court against her appointment.
The ‘resignation letter’ sent to the Governor said: “I have been working as Principal and HoD of Department of Chemistry in CPA College in Bodinayakanur….my recent activities were totally against the university as well as students. I deeply regret for all my activities against the university. I repent for this so much…..Hence, I resign from my syndicate membership.” Copies were sent to the Minister for Higher Education, Director of Collegiate Education and the Registrar.
Dr. Rajarajan has complained to the Governor that “the letter is a fraud to tarnish my image possibly because I have filed cases in the Madras High Court Bench in Madurai against the university. I am filing a police complaint regarding this counterfeit letter. I have not resigned from the membership of MKU Syndicate.”
He also met the Registrar to protest against the “scan-cut-copy-paste” matter since the college letterhead was used. “As Principals, we correspond with the varsity and my signature in one such letter has been misused,” he said.
