Fact-finding team demands probe on call data of SP Pattinam SI

October 30, 2014 10:28 am | Updated May 23, 2016 04:29 pm IST - MADURAI:

The conversation over the mobile phones of key police officers including Sub-Inspector Kalidoss figuring in the S.P. Pattinam police station shoot out case of Syed Mohammed should be probed.

Presenting its findings at a press conference here on Wednesday, Tamil Nadu president of the National Confederation of Human Rights Organisations A. Marx said that the call data of the officers now in controversy would reveal many startling facts. The confessions by the SI on the timing with regard to the finer details, before and after, the death of the youth was contradictory.

Similarly, the fact finding team found that some police officers had allegedly planned to cover up the whole crime as something accidental. Their mobile call data too should be tracked and deciphered by the investigating agency.

Though the police claimed that the Muslim youth was brought to the police station only on a complaint from an auto mechanic Aruldass, who had claimed that he was threatened by Syed Mohammed, the fact finding team members could not meet the complainant despite several attempts. “This sounded mysterious and led to suspicion,” Mr. Marx said. He also added that the complainant had not opened his shop after the incident.

Similarly, the facebook account of the SI should also be tracked closely as the team members gathered many shocking inputs about that he was a sympathiser of some Hindu outfits.

Custodial death

Expressing concern over the rise in custodial deaths in Tamil Nadu, the team members demanded more strict laws. With the conviction rate far from being satisfactory, the judiciary should intervene, they appealed and wanted the government to stop giving away awards like service recognition awards, meritorious awards et al to such officers under the guise of achievements.

Advocates Rajini, Syed Abdul Kader, S.N. Shahjahan demanded that the government should enhance the compensation to the Muslim youth as observed by the court.

The only solace in the entire episode was that the government had posted a Muslim police officer (sub-inspector) in the SP Pattinam police station.
