The number of small-scale entrepreneurs venturing into exports was rising in the past one year, said Ganapathy Ramanathan, Assistant Director General of Foreign Trade.

Addressing the inaugural function of an awareness programme on export promotional schemes and procedures under ‘Nirayat Bandu’ scheme organised by the Madurai District Tiny and Small Scale Industries Association (Maditssia) and Joint Director General of Foreign Trade Madurai, the officer said though there were more than 120 importer-exporter code numbers being issued every month, hardly one per cent of them were actually starting business ventures.

Stating that the DGFT office in Madurai was the zonal headquarters covering nine southern districts, the officer encouraged the participants to approach them.

Around 100 participants took part in the workshop and were briefed about the Nirayat Bandhu scheme, which was aimed at mentoring first-generation entrepreneurs.
