Weavers from across India are showcasing silk saris and other silk products at ‘Silk India 2014’ exhibition-cum-sale organised by Hastashilpi Artisans and Weavers Welfare Association at Fortune Pandyan Hotel.

According to T. Abhinand, manager of the association, nearly 100 varieties of saris priced between Rs.1,200 and Rs.35,000 are being showcased at the exhibition.

“Saris and various other products from Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Bengal have evoked good response from the visitors. Uppada, Godwal, Crape, Georgette and printed silk saris, besides Kanchipuram saris, are fast moving,” he said.

Mr. Abhinand said weavers from more than 15 States in the country were exhibiting their products at the expo, which was open for the public from 10.30 a.m. to 8.30 p.m. till Monday. Organic Tassar, Arini, chiffon, Himachal, Paithani, poona, Sambalpuri, Ikkat, Bomkai, raw silk, Kosa, Baluchuri, Kantha, Matka and Eri silk were some of the products on display.

“The exhibition provides a platform for weavers to sell their products directly to the customers. It is beneficial for the customers and the weavers as well,” Mr. Abhinand added.

Hastashilpi is a Mysore-based association working for the welfare of weavers across the nation.
