Collector Anshul Mishra on Saturday called for the complete eradication of child abuse in all forms from Madurai district.
Towards this objective, the district administration has organised a two-day ‘Child Rights Protector’ training of trainers at the Madurai Collectorate on Saturday and Sunday with staff of various Government departments taking part.
Of these participants, some would be short-listed and given training to become master trainers who would, in turn, train teachers and staff of various educational institutions in urban and rural areas of Madurai
The training would focus on child rights protections, preventing child labour and how to spot child abuse particularly sexual abuse in a student. Session on parenting styles would also be held for the trainees.
They would also be given training on intervention strategies and how to form a peer group comprising school students to deal with this issue as children were more likely to confide with their peers rather than strangers and elders.
A total of 437 personnel from departments such as Social Welfare, Police and Education besides Nehru Yuva Kendra, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), self help groups and Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), took part in the training. The trainees have been divided into four batches and training is being given by instructors from various fields.
The primary objective is to ensure all schools teachers and parents in Madurai know about child abuse, child rights protection and how to safeguard their children. The programme was being held in collaboration with organisations like Child line – 1098, Madurai Institute of Social Sciences, Collab and Sakthi Vidiyal, which are providing the trainers.
