Early on Sunday morning, a group of fashion design students gathered at a shopping mall in the city to stitch together the message of women empowerment in style.

The students of Dream Zone Fashion Institute led by technical head RM.Priya had cut out for themselves a huge task.

A 500-metre garment highlighted social issues confronted by women such as dowry harassment, domestic violence, lack of equal rights , female infanticide, child sexual abuse and safety of girl child.

By 3 p.m., they were ready with the fabric made of tissue, velvet and mat. After displaying it to the public, the fashion designing team reached Gandhi Museum from where they took out a rally carrying the half-a-kilometre-long cloth on which District Collector L.Subramanian made his signature saying that “woman is the pillar for any family.”

K.R.Thanga Rajeswari, centre head, Dream Zone, says the team wanted to celebrate women’s day in a creative way and being fashion designers the natural choice was garment.

“Today’s cloth work is an attempt to enter Limca Book of Records and we have applied for that,” she says.

Ms.Priya exudes confidence that men will change their attitude towards women and realise that women too can be kingmakers in all fields.

With fashion designer Neha Jain carrying the neatly stitched thematic cloth, the students walked along the main road for the signature campaign.
