Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president E.V.K.S. Elangovan on Sunday alleged that there was rampant corruption in the School Education Department and lot of money was being extorted from schools when they came for recognition renewal. He accused the department officials of making school managements run from pillar to post when they submitted their files once in three years seeking recognition renewal.
“Lakhs of rupees is being demanded from private schools to give recognition. The mandatory recognition renewal for schools is being exploited to make money,” he told reporters here.
Mr. Elangovan urged the government to save the State-owned cement factory at Alangulam in Virudhunagar from closure. He wanted the plant capacity increased to ensure its survival.
Mosquito control measures should be taken on a war-footing in Rajapalayam where over 15 persons had died of dengue fever. “Cleaning activity should not be confined to VIP visits, but on all days,” he observed.
Mr.Elangovan demanded that the ban on jallikattu be revoked to facilitate the conduct of the sport during Pongal.
