The Director of Drug Control of Government of Tamil Nadu, G. Selvaraj, has alerted his officials in Virudhunagar Zone to collect the specific details of Methamphetamine seized by sleuths of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) at Keelsevalpatti in Sivaganga district on Friday.
“Our Assistant Director will gather particulars from technical point of view and we are ready to assist the NCB if our services are required,” Dr.Selvaraj told The Hindu on Saturday.
The Virudhunagar Zone of the Directorate of Drug Control covers Virudhunagar, Sivaganga and Ramanathapuram districts.
Dr.Selvaraj informed that there are only four or five licensed manufacturers of Methamphetamine in the State and the group involved in Keelsevalpatti should be naturally illegal.
“It is a psychotropic substance and its manufacturing needs a licence. The Directorate of Drug Control had not given it to them. This is an addictive drug,” he added.
According to another senior drug official, this particular drug is given to epileptic patients, psychiatric care and central nervous system disorders.
“Excess dosage of this leads to death and sometimes sportsmen too consume it to keep active,” the official said.
