Couple drown in dam

A couple from Villivakkam in Chennai drowned in Chitrar II dam in Kanniyakumari district on Wednesday evening.

According to police C. Balamurugan (49), an employee of Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Perambur, and his wife Vimal Thangam (45) working in a private matriculation school, drowned when they ventured into deep area.

Vimal Thangam died on the way to a private Medical College Hospital in Kulasekaram, while the body of Balamurugan was fished out by the police and fire fighting personnel.

An 18-year-old B. Dhanush, younger son of the victims, their relative P. Meenambika (21) and her husband Palani Prem (25) were rescued by the local people.

The body of the victims were shifted to Asaripallam Government Medical College Hospital for post mortem.

Kadayalumoodu police have registered a case.
