In a suspected case of revenge murder, a call taxi driver M. Ramesh was stabbed to death by a three- member gang at his residence in Muniandapuram limits in the early hours on Sunday.

The police said that Ramesh, 25, was an accused in the murder of one Kasi under Nagamalai in 2013. The deceased, along with his wife Priya and a one- year-old daughter, had moved from Keezhakuyilkudi to Muniyandipuram last month.

The armed gang had knocked at his door at around 4:30 a.m. Realising the danger, Ramesh refused to open the door. The gang members had forced their way into the house by breaking open the door and attacked him.

However Ramesh managed to escape from the house and ran. The gang chased him for some distsnce and stabbed him indiscriminately. He died on the spot.

The police suspect that supporters of Kasi could have been behind the crime. The Subramaniapuram police are investigating. The body has been shifted to Gvernment Rajaji Hospital.
