Driver held for woman’s murder

A 43-year-old woman, K. Farida Banu, was found dead in a house of a TNSTC driver, S. Karthikeyan at Sadasiva Nagar, late on Thursday evening. The Anna Nagar police have arrested the driver. The police said that the woman, mother of three children and a resident of Teacher's Colony in Anuppanadi, had an illicit relationship with the driver. On Thursday, when Karthikeyan's wife had gone to Melmaruvathur, Banu came to his house, Assistant Commissioner of Police B. Sakthivel said.

After a quarrel, the driver is said to have slit the woman's throat. On seeing one of the daughters of the deceased who had come in search of the woman, the driver escaped. . The girl had found her mother murdered and alerted the police. The police arrested him on Friday.

“It was a planned murder after the woman started nagging him to transfer the house to her name,” the Inspector of Police, S. Sivakumar, said.

Meanwhile, a 29-year-old woman, N. Kaleeswari, who was set on fire by her husband, G. Nagarajan (42), in the small hours of Thursday died at the Government Rajaji hospital in the night. The police said that the man, who was a cook, used to frequently quarrel with her in drunken mood.

After a similar quarrel at Wednesday midnight, he doused kerosene on her and set her on fire. Neighbours admitted the victim to the GRH. The woman, a mother of two, succumbed to burns. The Tirupparankundram police have arrested the accused for murder.
