A city-based doctor lost ₹20 lakh-worth diamond and gold jewellery when he, along with his wife, missed a bag containing the valuables while travelling on a bus on Friday morning.

Police said Dr. V. Ravindranath of Anna Nagar and his wife returned home from Chennai on a private bus. They got down from the bus near the District Court complex. They were shocked to find the handbag containing a four-carat diamond necklace, a two-carat pendant and a one-carat stud, along with 25 sovereigns of gold missing.

The doctor lodged a complaint with Anna Nagar police.
