‘Do not get distracted by mobile phones’

Passengers have been warned against getting distracted by mobile phones and unwittingly revealing the valuables they carry along during rail journeys at an awareness programme conducted by the Tamil Nadu Railway Police at Rajapalayam on Tuesday.

Its Superintendent of Police (Tiruchi) Annie Vijaya, who addressed rail passengers, said that they should be careful with their conversations while on mobile phone at railway stations and on trains. “Often passengers reveal secrets about the valuables they carry while speaking over the mobile phone without even thinking that criminals around them are being alerted,” she said.

Similarly, passengers failed to take care of their belongings when they were engrossed on the cell phones, Dr. Vijaya said.

Besides asking the passengers to be vigilant during their summer travel, she said they could take the help of the TRP by calling 1512 and 9962-500-500 while in distress.

Dr. Vijaya asked the road users to be very careful at unmanned level crossing. “People should never take chances with the approaching trains to hurriedly cross the track at level crossings. Often, people will not be able to gauge the speed at which the trains run and, consequently, get hit by them,” she said. Dr. Vijaya also advised the youths not to think of committing suicide by falling in front of trains. “Suicide is no relief to failures in life. In fact, people who commit suicide put the family members into more trouble,” she said. Deputy Superintendent of Police (Madurai) Karthikeyan, and Inspector of Police (Virudhunagar) Ravanan were present.
