National Democratic Alliance candidate D. Sivamuthukumar sought votes in the interior villages, promising clean governance and complete prohibition

The Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) kick-started its election campaign in the Madurai Lok Sabha constituency on Wednesday, carrying a message that “Narendra Modi is the only hope for India’s villages”.

National Democratic Alliance candidate D. Sivamuthukumar sought votes in the interior villages, promising a clean governance and complete prohibition, and cashing in on Mr.Modi’s name.

He began his campaign for the April 24 election after offering prayers at Sri Narasinga Perumal Temple at Narasingam near here.

From Narasingam, he proceeded to Arumbanur village where he addressed the first meeting.

“The coming Lok Sabha election is to make Mr. Modi the Prime Minister. If he has to win, cast your vote for me and it will be finally the people’s victory,” he said.

Priority

He said the DMDK and other parties in the NDA alliance would give priority to the poor and protect the villages in all aspects.

“Now, the poor people’s money is going to liquor shops and several families are getting ruined. If prohibition has to be enforced in Tamil Nadu on the lines of Gujarat, NDA’s Prime Ministerial candidate Mr. Modi is the only hope. India needs villages and villagers need Mr. Modi,” he said.

Amidst drum beating and dance by cadres and troupes, Mr. Sivamuthukumar canvassed for votes for his party symbol ‘Murasu.’

BJP functionaries, including district president I.S. Muthannasamy and State Propaganda Cell vice-president C. Saseeraman, were among those who accompanied Mr. Sivamuthukumar.

DMDK founder Vijayakant will campaign in the constituency for the party candidate on Thursday. He will address a meeting in Melur at 3 p.m., at K.Pudur in the city at 5 p.m. and at Dinamani Talkies junction at 7 p.m.
