Differently abled persons took out a protest rally near the Collectorate premises here on Monday.

Stating that there were more than 15,000 educated differently abled persons in the district, they said that there were persons who had been waiting for more than 20 years for a job after registering with the employment office. They took out the rally on wheelchairs and two-wheelers.

“The three per cent quota for providing employment to the differently abled has not been properly implemented. There are many vacancies in the government departments which need to be rightfully filled with differently abled persons,” said D. Inbaraju, member of the Madurai District Differently abled Persons Welfare Association.

They stated that they had submitted numerous petitions in this regard but no action was taken. They urged the district administration to intervene and provide them with equal employment opportunities.
