For a majority of differently abled persons at the Monday grievance meeting presided over by Collector U. Sagayam, relief came instantly.
A boy from Jaihindpuram, who suffered a permanent injury on his leg after a fall from a tree, received a sophisticated calliper worth Rs. 20,000. Similarly, a girl wishing to pursue her teacher training course sought financial assistance. Immediately, Mr. Sagayam sanctioned Rs. 5,000 from the Collector's discretionary fund and recommended for a bank loan as well.
A young girl, who lost her mother recently, had a different tale to narrate. As her father married another woman, the girl was living with her aunt and wanted the Collector's help in getting her admission in a government hostel where she could stay and pursue her education.
Many other differently abled persons received old age pension on the spot, after due verification, by the revenue authorities.
The Collector also gave away sewing machines to persons under the Adi Dravida Welfare department and from Backward Classes Welfare Department.
When a few other petitioners wanted the Collector to get them house site pattas, he directed the officials to expedite the process after carrying out field investigations.
After getting the welfare assistance, the beneficiaries thanked the district administration for its swift help.
According to a press release, a total of 692 petitions were received.
District Revenue Officer B. Murugesh and officials from other departments attended the meeting.
