Dial 182 for RPF help during train journey

November 05, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:41 am IST - Madurai:

Railway passengers can call Railway Protection Force helpline ‘182’ to seek any assistance while travelling.

Pasting stickers displaying the nation-wide toll-free number, RPF Madurai Divisional Security Commissioner P. Shankaran Kutty said: “The callers just have to mention the details of the train, the coach and the location of the train.

RPF personnel will reach them at the next railway station,” he said.

Passengers could also call the RPF personnel in case of any harassment by fellow passengers or theft of their properties, he said.

The RPF personnel also distributed pamphlets among the passengers displaying the toll-free number and cautioning them against being drugged by robbers.

Mr. Shankaran Kutty said that last year only one case of drugging was reported in the division and the accused were held immediately with the help of footage got through closed circuit television cameras.
