Dhyan Chand award: notice to Centre

The Madras High Court Bench here on Friday ordered notice to the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports on a writ petition filed by Madurai-based J. Ranjith Kumar, a physically challenged international athlete turned coach, challenging his non-selection for ‘Dhyan Chand Award for Lifetime Achievement in Sports- 2015.’ Justice R. Subbiah directed Standing Counsel to take the notice returnable by two weeks after the petitioner’s counsel K. Swamidurai said the Centre rejected the petitioner’s application for the award and selected three other sportspersons whose accomplishments were much less compared to that of the petitioner.
