Dhaya College of Engineering has moved the Madras High Court bench here challenging an order of the Anna University issued on July 15 dismissing the college’s plea for temporary affiliation.
A division bench had directed the University to inspect the college and pass fresh orders on granting provisional affiliation in its order dated July 3.
In his petition, Jeyakaran Grubb, the authorised signatory of the college, claimed that an inspection team visited the college and examined the facilities on July 11, 2013. A report submitted by the inspection team recommended provisional affiliation to the college for the academic year 2013-2014 subject to the fulfilment of three conditions, he added.
“The inspection team and the standing committee of affiliation of the Anna University recommended that the college can be given temporary affiliation after it obtained certificates from the licensed holder for electrical installation, and the superintending engineer of the public works department on structural stability and renew the certificate obtained from the health inspector”, Mr Grubb claimed in his petition.
According to him, the University had rejected their plea for provisional affiliation despite the recommendation of the inspection team. He contended that the court had directed the University to inspect only the ‘infrastructural and instructional facilities’. The University had issued the rejection order with a ‘malafide intention’, the petitioner alleged.
In his petition, he sought to quash the impugned rejection order and a direction to the University to grant the college provisional affiliation for the year 2013-2014 and permit the college to take part in the counselling for engineering courses.
