A large number of devotees from across the State thronged the Subramaniya Swamy Temple in Tiruchendur, the second abode of Lord Murugan, and offered prayers on the occasion of Thai Poosam on Sunday.

Many devotees had come on padayatra to the temple which was opened at 3 a.m. on Sunday with vishwaroopa aradhana. Many devotees tonsured their head, while some performed kavadi attam. The devotees waited in long queues and had darshan. Angapradashanams was performed by many. The devotees took a holy dip in the sea off the temple.

Additional bus services to Tiruchendur from various places were operated by Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation. The arrival of devotees to the Tiruchendur temple was on the rise since 2007, sources said. But many devotees said that the approach roads to the temple — Sannathi Street, North Car Street and East Car Street, were bad. After walking a long distance from far off places, the padayatris faced hardship on the approach roads.
