The State government has initiated desilting of waterbodies on a warfooting in Kanniyakumari district. Due to this, the storage capacity would be increased from 10 to 15 feet than in the past, said Rajya Sabha MP A. Vijayakumar.

Hearing the grievances of the public at Manavalakkurichi on Monday, Mr. Vijayakumar said that desilting and deepening work in Subbaiyar Kulam, Semmangulam and Ananthan kulam were progressing on a war footing. This would improve the groundwater table under Nagercoil municipality limits.

“I am taking steps to introduce boating facilities in Ananthankulam with the cooperation of the Tourism Department. If the scheme is implemented, it will be a bonanza for the people of Nagercoil for their entertainment’’ he added.

Mr. Vijayakumar heard the grievances of the public from Manavalakkurichi and Mandaicaud town panchayats at a marriage hall on Monday.

Mr. Vijayakumar assured the people that flats would be allotted to the houseless people in Manavalakurichi and Mandaicaud town panchayats under the Housing for All scheme.
