Three more dengue patients including a four-month-old girl baby, died on Monday, taking the death toll in the district to 32.
While A. Muthulakshmi (7) of Surandai, died in the small hours of Monday due to dengue, G. Meena (35) of Ravanasamudram and K. Krithiga, a four-month-old from Lakshmiyoor near Alangulam, died on Monday after being admitted to Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital with dengue.
Even as the Department of Health Services officials are claiming that the outbreak would be completely controlled within a week, influx of fresh cases to TVMCH is still continuing.
Tuticorin
Outbreak of dengue has claimed the life of a child, V. Gyani of Sippikulam under Kulathur Primary Health Centre limits, at a private hospital here on Sunday.
According to Deputy Director of Health Services, Tuticorin, any patient with symptoms of dengue should be treated as an in-patient. But the baby was treated as an out-patient for three days and intense medication was not given.
Many private hospitals do not conduct Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA), a key test to confirm dengue, as the equipment is costly.
But the equipment is available at Government Hospital, Tuticorin. But people approach such private hospitals for treatment.
Five patients with dengue have been hospitalised in Government Medical College Hospital here so far.
In a statement here on Monday, R. Russell, district secretary, Communist Party of India (Marxist), said authorities should intensify fogging operations to tackle mosquito menace.

The Collector, S. Nagarajan, has formed a supervising committee to monitor the field works being carried out throughout the district to prevent the outbreak of dengue in this district.
Presiding over a meeting held at the Collectorate here on Monday, the Collector said that in union-level Deputy Collector would supervise the awareness campaign as well as the cleaning programme throughout the district.
The field workers would visit each and every house and advice the residents about the need to ensure their houses and the surrounding areas free from mosquitoes.
Hence he sought the co-operation of the people to prevent the outbreak of dengue or other fever along with the officials of health department.
The project officer of District Rural Development Agency, Manthirachalam, project officer of Mahalir Thittam, Muniyasamy, deputy director for health Madusoodhanan attended the meeting.
