The members of South India Consumer and Human Rights Protection Council staged a demonstration near Thiruvalluvar statue in front of the Collectorate here on Tuesday, alleging that a private school in the suburbs had suspended a Class VI student on ‘unfair’ grounds.
“The student and her parents had approached Madurai District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum alleging that her school at T. Kallupatti had been charging high fees. Hence, the school debarred her from attending classes and then suspended her,” K. Manavalan, president of the Council, said.
The girl’s father claimed that he had posted a complaint about collection of exorbitant fees on the District Collector’s Facebook page, which was directed to Matriculation Inspectorate.
However, no action had been taken so far, he noted.
The agitators said regulations regarding school fees should be implemented properly and the officials concerned should keep a check on such institutions.
