A decomposed body of a 56 year-old man was found hidden inside a room used to dump waste materials, at the Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH) here on Tuesday.

The incident came to light at around 8.30 a.m. when the sanitary workers at the hospital were cleaning the room situated in the PG teaching room, adjoining the cardiology department. The corpse was discovered naked on the floor, hidden under wooden planks. The workers were asked to clean up the room as a foul stench began emanating from it yesterday.

Sellur man

The police said that the victim identified as Hari Ram (56) of Sellur had visited the cardiology department at the hospital on February 26.

He had reportedly gone in search of the doctor in cardiology department and could have entered the adjacent room by mistake and collapsed.

Man missing case

After a long search that proved futile, Hari’s relatives lodged a complaint with the GRH police, who filed a man missing case on February 28, in this regard.

Meanwhile, the body was retrieved and sent to the mortuary for post-mortem.

The police are verifying the CCTV footages recorded over the past week to probe into an incident in which a hospital staff is said to have attempted to “smuggle out” a body on a wheel chair.

However, the unidentified male staff was forced to take the body back to the hospital after people in the vicinity raised an alarm.

The Government Rajaji Hospital police are investigating.

The post-mortem report will be released on Wednesday, the police added.
