Death in custody: kin demand action against police

The family members and relatives of a suspect in a robbery case, who died in police custody on Friday, blocked road traffic in front of the Government Rajaji Hospital here on Saturday, demanding action against the police officials who they alleged were responsible for his death.

Over 100 persons, all relatives of A. Seeni, a suspect in the October 18 robbery who was found hanging in Vilakathoon police station, blocked vehicle movement on the Panagal Road around noon and refused to accept his body.

Deputy Commissioners of Police Tamil Chandran and Samanth Rohan Rajendra held talks with them.

The protesters, who demanded the post-mortem be videographed in the presence of their advocate, dispersed only after the senior officials assured of action against those responsible for Seeni’s death.
